Sleepin' Joe
Poor Joe Biden got caught napping during President Obama's speech on reducing the federal budget deficit. Chances are Biden isn't the first vice president lulled asleep during a presidential speech, but he's the one with the misfortune of nodding off in an time where cameras and microphones are pretty much everywhere. I seem to recall that in a ceremony following passage of the Obama's health care legislation, Biden was caught uttering a few choice profanities.

Lunching
Whoever came up with the bright idea of having Obama and Biden do their weekly lunch at "Ray's Hell Burger" should be dismissed. Like the disastrous foray into the bowling alley during the Pennsylvania primary, Obama comes across as stiff and wooden in these settings. Grabbing a bite to eat at a joint located in a strip mall that features food high in caloric intake and low in nutrition is difficult to reconcile with a president known for being extremely particular about what he eats. Which is why Obama's question - "Have you got a spicy mustard or something like that? A Dijon mustard?" - was ridiculous.

Biden's Loquacity
Vice president Joe Biden suffers from a condition known as diarrhea of the mouth - he often puts his mouth in motion before thinking. So it comes as no surprise that he said some pretty idiotic things about swine flu that required the White House and his staff to issue "clarifications" of what he really meant to say.

A Diversion
Conservatives are in an uproar over Gwen Ifill, tonight's moderator in the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. They say that Ifill's ability to be fair and impartial is compromised because she has a book coming out in January about Barack Obama. The charge is nonsense. Ifill is a seasoned professional who is able to set aside her personal opinions and beliefs and treat both Biden and Palin. This is nothing but a lame attempt to divert attention away from Sarah Palin's performance.
