The little fellow on the right needed the visit of a high profile American to shore up his standing as the Supreme Ruler of one of the most bizarre nations on the planet. The other fellow, the gray haired dude on the left, was willing to oblige because of late, especially since his wife came up short in the Democratic presidential sweepstakes, he had pretty much been pushed to the sidelines. But as fate would have it, he was remarkably suited for the task: Bubba has always been good at picking up women.

Bill Clinton Rises to the Occasion

Last night it was former president Bill Clinton's turn, following wife Hillary's lead, to put the harsh feelings engendered by a hard-fought Democratic presidential campaign behind him and declare his support for Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. And he didn't disappoint by coming out emphatically in support of the junior senator from Illinois:

I say to you: Barack Obama is ready to lead America and restore American leadership in the world. Barack Obama is ready to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Barack Obama is ready to be president of the United States.

It had been widely reported that unlike Hillary Clinton, husband Bill isstill pissed at Obama for the manner in which his wife was treated -apparently he developed this heightened sensitivity after putting herthrough various embarrassments over the years, but I digress - and that he isn't ready to support Obama unless he, Obama, "kisses my ass." (One would have thought that Monica and the other bimbos he's known to have associated with would have serviced that area as well, since they spent so much time on the neighboring frontal regions of his anatomy) Of course, Bill's people are denying that he remains in a hissy fit over
Hillary coming up short, and, alas, CNN reports that Bill and Barack spoke in a telephone conversation earlier today and will let bygones be bygones all for the sake of party unity. No word yet on whether they will make a joint appearance and be color coordinated (as Barack and Hillary were), make nice, clasp hands while singing "We Shall Overcome" (or "Lift Every Voice", Bill knows all the verses) and share a stage in some cow pasture in a little town like the aptly named Unity, New Hampshire.

Barack Obama should not choose Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential running mate because the office of the presidency is not a triumvirate. With Hillary ensconced in the vice presidency, Obama will automatically get husband Bill, and therefore would be saddled with both Clintons — who maniacally believe they are entitled to be president.

Getting Late

Damn, I am sick and tired of the Clintons. I mean there isn't a day that goes by without Hillary or Bill saying something stupid and self-serving in justifying why she remains in the race, despite being, for all intents and purposes, mathematically eliminated. Hillary's latest ploy is to invoke the name of the Almighty: "There isn't anything we cannot do together if we seek God's blessing and if we stay committed and are not deterred by the setbacks that often fall in every life." And then there's Bill who claimed that the firestorm of reaction triggered by Hillary's Robert Kennedy assassination gaffe raised his blood pressure, not exactly a good thing for someone having undergone heart surgery: "That really made my blood boil." The sooner Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee, and the Democratic Superdelegates step in and tell the Clintons to end Hilary's candidacy, the better off the Democratic Party will be and the focus can finally turn to Sen. John McCain and the general election in November.
