Holding On

Libya's Col. Moammar Gaddafi, the often comically eccentric but monstrously brutal dictator, seems resolutely determined to hold onto power and not follow the path of his Egyptian and Tunisian counterparts who relinquished power albeit reluctantly. Ban Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day should be banned because, after you've stripped away all of the nonsense about love and romance, what you have is a faux holiday where the real beneficiaries are the greeting card, floral, chocolate, and restaurant industries. Now don't get me wrong: expressions of love and affection are fine but they don't have to be mandated by a day that is driven more by commerce than anything else. If one needs to be reminded by Valentine's Day to do something special for a loved one, what's the point? Damn, you should have been doing that all year long and on the regular. Happy Valentine's Day.
